Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships

The 44th Warsaw Marathon will be the first marathon in Poland to participate in the Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships as a qualifying event.

“The Warsaw Marathon Foundation” and the Abbott World Marathon Majors are teaming up for the Age Group World Ranking Series.
The 44th Warsaw Marathon has become an official qualifying stage for the Abbott World Marathon Majors Wanda Age Group World Championships for runners aged 40+.

The Warsaw Marathon is the first marathon event in our country honored as an official qualification for the World Championships in the 40+ age category. Last year, around 50 events from all continents were included in this elite group. It is another edition with more than 175 events worldwide. With the partnership of so many, carefully selected races, the Masters World Championships is becoming a truly global event, with the final to be held in 2023 and the organizing city to be announced next year.

As Tim Hadzima, executive director of Abbott World Marathon Majors, points out:
“We are truly thrilled by the tremendous interest with which marathons from around the world have responded to our invitation to co-create the AbbottWMM Wanda Age Group Rankings. Each year, more than 125,000 runners over the age of 40 participate in AbbottWMM events, and with our new qualification system, even more passionate runners will become part of the AbbottWMM family. From now on, runners will be able to compete for championship qualification by participating in events around the world on the date of their choice. Our goal was to give running enthusiasts a chance to compete for the highest rewards, and thanks to our new partners, that chance is greater than ever.”

“We are proud to be able to work with our partners to bring age-graded marathon running to the next level, and at the same time showcase the great achievements that our champions can boast.” – Tim Hadzima adds.

The president of the “Warsaw Marathon Foundation” – Marek Tronina – emphasizes the
steady development of the event:

“From the very beginning of its existence, the Warsaw Marathon was an event to popularize marathon running in our country. From year to year we introduced more and more new solutions and facilities, constantly increasing the organizational level. Establishing cooperation with Abbott World Marathon Majors is another step in the right direction.”
Competitors will compete in age divisions: 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-
