The 46th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon is fast approaching, making it the perfect time to highlight those who have been involved in creating marathon history and are an integral part of it. To mark the 100th anniversary of the first marathon in Poland, the organizers will be awarding 100 unique posters, designed by one of Poland’s most renowned poster artists, Andrzej Pągowski. 95 of these will be given to the most deserving members of the marathon community. The first 5 posters, however, have been placed in a special charity auction for flood victims, allowing every art and sports memorabilia enthusiast to participate!
“100 Posters for the 100th Anniversary” – A Unique Souvenir Could Be Yours!
The Warsaw Marathon has a history of combining sports with art, as winners of its early editions were awarded paintings by renowned artists. This year’s anniversary poster has been released in a limited edition of just 100 copies!
The recipients will feel like Olympic medalists from the Paris Games, with one difference – they won’t receive copies, but original, numbered A2-sized posters. Initially, the organizers planned to give them to 100 individuals to express their gratitude to those involved in the marathon’s history. However, due to the difficult situation in the south of the country, it was decided that part of these exceptional posters, created by Andrzej Pągowski, would be auctioned for charity.
95 individuals will be honored with posters! This group will include race winners, but primarily those who have made significant contributions to the marathon’s development and success over the decades and who stand out for their dedication. Anyone can own one of the remaining five posters, as they are now up for charity auction. The proceeds will go to support the efforts of the Avalon Foundation, which helps people with disabilities affected by this year’s flood.
“The greatest gem on auction is poster No. 1 from the limited series, signed by Andrzej Pągowski himself. This is a unique opportunity to support a noble cause and acquire an extraordinary, collectible item that combines both artistic and historical value. It’s a modest gesture of solidarity from the running community with those affected by the destructive forces of nature,” said Marek Tronina, president of the Warsaw Marathon Foundation.
About Andrzej Pągowski
He is a legend in Polish graphic design. Andrzej Pągowski’s fame extends beyond Poland’s borders – the poster artist is a laureate of both Polish and international awards. His works are part of private and state collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and San Francisco, and the Pompidou Center in Paris. The Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art has included his poster “The Smile of the Wolf” among the 100 most important works of modern art in MoMA’s collection!
Pągowski is also the creator of many iconic posters for legendary films such as Rosemary’s Baby, Man of Marble, Sexmission, and The Decalogue. Now, one of his latest limited works can be yours through the auction, and in doing so, you can help those in need in flood-affected areas.
